John Weiksnar“The Transcendental Tourist” — revisiting Falls visits in an ’00s photo series
The pre-Flickr social photo site Fotolog.net was still alive and kicking in 2007. That summer, a user with the handle jpw posted a set of candid tourist shots from the brink of Niagara Falls.
Fore, aft, or silhouette, each color exposure locked in the energy of the era. Or maybe just an impassive lull.
The set caught the attention of Fotolog staff, who featured the shots in a brief “Flog” entry dubbed “The Transcendental Tourist.”
Ten years later, Fotolog is all but finale. But the photos live on—the original nine, plus a bonus batch of outtakes—remastered and presented for another decade of world-class stupor.
